Surgicals are manufacturers of Surgical Equipment. Their prime
target market segment are Surgeons. They have a wide range of
products which have complex specifications. To make it easier
for both Doctors and their sales staff, they wanted a catalog
that could detail their products with their specifications and
photographs, include information on their company and production
facilities.
The client evaluated the cost effectiveness of designing and
using a print catalog vis-a-vis a CD-ROM based catalog.
Needless to say, CD-ROM catalog was found to
be the more compelling choice.
We had to ensure that the colours used were neutral and alongwith
the layout were pleasing to the eyes. It is a huge collection
and people may spend hours looking at it!
The other challenge was to create a nice animated intro that
could capture and hold user's attention. The print catalogs,
that Surgeons are used to seeing in this industry are pages
of running text which may or may not be interspersed with product
images. We had the task of creating a catalog that Surgeons
enjoyed looking at.
In the Product Specifications sections, we were careful to avoid
any looping animations lest they may have an annoying, distracting
effect.
Navigation was another area that demanded
minute attention. There are several categories and sub categories
and we had to ensure that people didn't end up getting lost
in a maze. |
