Project Overview: Our client wanted us to help them with the development of an application that can provide real-time updates to its N97 users on the hottest sports news details. A client side widget development was required here to process the multiple feeds provided by the channel server and to provide its Nokia N97 device users with the latest updates, connected to the server.
Primary Objectives: The application was designed and developed with the following primary objectives in mind:
- Application should be scalable and industry approved
- Application to have a fast turn-around time to convert the feeds served by the main server
- Should be a feature rich application with multiple options
- Rapid application development and deployment on N97 handsets
Solution: After elaborate discussions with the client, we produced a detailed specification document for the mobile application development project. Through a deep understanding of their needs and requirements, we developed a feature rich, scalable and standards compliant Nokia N97 widget for our client. The N97 application designed by us has the ability to update latest news every 5 minutes while the scores and commentary are updated every 60 seconds.

Server side: PHP, MySQL, XML Parsing and AJAX
Client side: HTML, Flash Action Scripting and Javascript
Features: The application includes various features enabling its users to browse through the information in the most comfortable way. Each feature available to the user is represented as a widget. The user can choose the widgets according to his/her needs.
Some of the features available to the users are listed below:
- Scores and schedules – Users can check the live scores updated every 60 seconds by the feeds provided by the sports channel server.
- Latest news – The widget allows the user access to latest sports news on his mobile.
- Live commentary – Users can listen to direct commentary of the ongoing matches on N97 mobile.
- Top stories – Using the widget, the users now have access to latest articles on ongoing sports events and players.
- SMS functionality – SMSs can be sent to avail any mobile update service provided by the channel.
- Related links – Also featuring related links on each page window to enable the user to find information easily.
- Mobile store – The application also includes an online store-front enabling the user to buy tickets for upcoming sports events.
- Date Keeper – The date keeper contains all the dates of the important sports events for the current month, including their venue details.
